Dating Abuse

Teen dating abuse is a pattern of behaviors in which one partner seeks to maintain power and control over the other partner. There are many different types of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and technological abuse. 

  • 1 in 3 teens will experience some type of dating abuse. 
  • 1 in 3 teens who have been in a relationship report they have received text messages 10, 20, 30 times per hour by a partner in order to find out where they are, what they are doing, or who they are with. (TRU for Liz Claiborne 1/2007)
  • Only 33% of teens who were in an abusive relationship ever told anyone about the abuse.(TRU for Liz Claiborne 2/2005).
